Technology in the Learning Center

Maternity BVM's Learning Center is a brand new facility, completed in January of 2004. With space for a large supply of books and a state of the art computer lab, it is an integral part of our learning program. In addition to regular visits to check out books, our students use the Learning Center twice a week as a class.

Kingergarten through Grade 5 use the state of the art computers to reinforce reading, math, library, and many other skills. They practice keyboarding and practice using the internet for dictionaries and other beginning research.

The junior high uses the Learning Center to learn various computer skills, such as word processing, graphing, tables, research, and creating presentations. They learn the full suite of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher.

Technology in the Classroom

Every class at Maternity BVM has computers in their classroom, as well as in our state-of-the-art learning center, where they receive regular technology education. Every teacher has a laptop that they use to enhance their lessons through the use of videos, internet research and PowerPoint presentations which the students view with the classroom's computer projector.

Laptop program

In August 2006, Maternity BVM took another innovative step in preparing its students for the future. Maternity BVM's Junior High has a laptop program to enhance our traditional curriculum by utilizing the best practices available through technology. We are a “laptop school” in the fullest meaning of the term. Every teacher and junior high student has a laptop.

In the Junior High, students receive class notes and other information such as their syllabus, schedules, assignment requirements on their computer. They access topics instantly in class, create multimedia presentations and e-mail their assignments to their teachers. It is also a great organizational tool that prepares them for the world ahead of them.

Our laptop program is an incredible experience, and each day is an affirmation of the significance of this exciting learning opportunity for our students.
