Maternity BVM Grad Named National Merit Finalist

Charlie Frye of Bourbonnais has been named a National Merit Finalist for the year 2009. The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)–a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year–and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.

Mr. Frye graduated from Maternity BVM Catholic Elementary School in 2005. He has been active in the St. Pat's and Teresa's Youth Group and volunteered as a tutor at Kankakee High School in the summer. He is currently a senior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora where he has been active on the Speech Team, Junior Statesman of America and Model United Nations. In addition, he has competed in cross country, swimming and track. He was recently named an Illinois State Scholar. Charlie is the son of Drs. Kent and Anne Frye of Bourbonnais and brother to Tim Frye who is in 7th grade at MBVM.
