Maternity BVM School Philosophy

We, the educational community of Maternity BVM Catholic Elementary School, recognizing that parents are the primary educators of their children, believe that we share the responsibility for preparing our students to live Christian lives in today's diverse, complex, and technology-based society. The Gospel message of Jesus Christ is the foundation on which a positive attitude toward Catholic values is instilled. We challenge the students to live these Christian values at home, in school, in Maternity BVM Parish, and in the global community. The responsibility for building a peaceful and just world is developed and fostered in the students and involvement in Christian service is a vital part of the students' experience. Liturgical and para liturgical services are an integral part of this growth and development and are panned to enhance the students' faith development.

We believe that each child is unique, that each child has special gifts and talents along with specific needs and problems. We believe that this uniqueness has to be challenged in order that the whole person be developed. This development takes place in an atmosphere of openness and trust, love, and concern.

We believe strongly in academic excellence based on student potential. We believe in a curriculum that is vital, a curriculum that is current, a curriculum that meets and challenges the individual needs and aspirations of each student.

We believe that we are a community of people -- parents, students, teachers, and Maternity BVM parishioners -- striving to build the kingdom of God on Earth.
